Over 80 ex-islanders and their family members returned to St John’s and Lazarus Island for a reunion on 9th November 2014. It is the largest gathering of ex-islanders to revisit their roots since their resettlement in the late 1970s.

I’m very happy because I can see all my friends, my school, my childhood friends and my teacher. I feel like I’m back to 40 years ago.

Bedah Bte Din, 76, swims joyfully in the waters off St John's Island (Pulau Sekijang Bendera) during the reunion of former islanders of that cluster in Nov 2014.

Rajendran s/o Ramakrishnan, 54, stands outside his former residence, where he lived from 1961 till 1972. His father was a hospital attendant and they lived in the bungalow that is now rented out as a holiday chalet.

179 PWD Quarters was the name used for this building where Fauziah Mohd Said, 56, used to live on St John's Island (Pulau Sekijang Bendera). Found right at the end of the dwellings when you turn left from the jetty. Fauziah remembers this as a cosy place where islanders would come by and sit on the stairs to chat. She was resettled in 1978, and now resides at Telok Blangah.
